It has been about a month since I began this oil painting of a Macaw, as it is my first attempt at painting with this media. What I find wonderful about oil paint is the thick consistency and vibrant colors. Blending can also be achieved so much easier than with other paints, such as Acrylics. I've been working to finish this painting since the moment arrived home, and I am extremely glad that it is finally finished! The only thing missing, is my signature, which I will add later. If you are unfamiliar with oil, it takes FOREVER to dry. Quite literally, I painted the blue and green background last week, and it is still extremely wet. My signature will just have to wait about another week or so. Anyway, It is not extremely detailed, due to the fact that oil is a very different type of media to work with, and quick results are just not possible. I most likely will go back later and tweak a few things, possibly add some more defined detail, but for now, all I can say is that this media challenged me to deal with lack of detail. Enjoy!
